JOIN US TO STAND IN SOLIDARITY AND TO SHOW OUR SUPPORT FROM AUSTRALIA FOR ALL WOMEN AND RALLY AGAINST THE CRIMINALISATION OF ABORTIONS IN THE UNITED STATES.
Under proposed law in Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, lowa, and Utah, women can be charged with up to 99 years imprisonment if they pursue an abortion, even in the case of rape. In some cases, the death penalty can also be applied.
In Alabama, the penalty for getting an abortion if you have been raped is more severe than the penalty for the crime of rape itself.
In Ohio, any birth control that acts to stop a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus is considered an abortion.
In Louisiana, the "heartbeat bill" has almost been passed, prohibiting abortions after 6 weeks. Most pregnancies are not detected until after this point.
In Arkansas, parents, spouses and guardians of women can sue practitioners who perform the abortion.
Over a dozen states have sought to criminalise abortion this year alone. 28 of the 50 US states have introduced more than 300 new rules to limit abortion.
Legislators introducing these bills have no concern for the health, safety or bodily autonomy of women and we must make our voices heard.
Please attempt to keep language as gender inclusive as possible – we acknowledge that not all women have uteruses, and not all people with uteruses are women. Trans men and non-binary people are equally affected by this weaponised attack on people with uteruses. This protest WELCOMES ALL GENDERS AND ALL RACES. Please be respectful of the fact that this is a crisis.
We acknowledge that this event is taking place on stolen, sacred indigenous land and sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
